I came home to Esau being in heat for the first time - and neither she, nor her foster sister enjoyed it. So first thing Monday morning I called a vet and on Tuesday we got the cats into cages and brought them to the clinic and got them neutered.
This was the first time that Kenya was put in a cage since that traumatic event when she had only been with us one week and was forced into the cage (and gave me a really bad bite which needed antibiotics). Since she was born wild and captured one week earlier that seems only reasonable.
One reason why had postponed the neutering was that we didn't want to destroy her trust for us. But now it was definitely time and she still seems to trust us. She did jump up to her favourite spot behind me when I sat in the living room hand sewing, after just a few hours.
Both of them removed their cones in five seconds, but luckily they don't lick the wound much, so all the stitching is still intact. They also don't seem to be in pain, so the pain killer bottle is still unopened.
In all, MUCH easier than I had anticipated.
