Today at work I have spent most of the time drinking tea and chatting. I can't seem to get any serious work done. I hang around on LJ, hope for people to e-mail me etc. I have to get working seriously on my next chapter, but I'm just bored and uninspired.
Yesterday I started on the mock-up for my 19th century corset. I'm using this pattern ( I think I got the link from [livejournal.com profile] marymont, thank you.) First I planned to make the same corset as Jen Thompson, but I sort of like the look with gores better. This pattern also only has straight boning channels which means that I can use boning that is readily available in Göteborg and don't have to order it from Stockholm. In fact I can use the 1/2" german boning that I have already. I had planned to buy artificial whalebone, but seeing how my finances are it's a good idea to use what I have. Well, hopefully I will finish the mock-up tonight so I can try it on.

the fun thing with gores is that one can do pretty embellishments on them! like embroidery or mattelassé ;)

although i'm in love with the bustle/natural form dresses, i'm tempted to make a late 1860s summerdress in the gorgeous striped cotton organza i found this weekend... just for the fun of it.
or i could keep it all to one period and make a superembellished-pleated-ruffle dream of the early 1880s... so hard to decide. i want it all!

how many widths of fabric would you calculate for a 1860s daydress?
