Smart idea

Yesterday I got the bright idea that instead of ironing 8 m of linen after washing it, I would use the mangle. You smart people have probably already thought of this, but why I haven't is a mystery. I mean, you mangle linen table cloths, why not fabric? It saves an immense lot of time and effort. You get rather sharp creases where the fabric is folded to fit into the mangle, but on the other hand it gets very smooth and shiny. In almost no time at all. Of course I will iron the pieces after cutting them, to get rid of eventual creases, but this is just in preparation for cutting.

Sweden's the only place I know where you still regularly use mangles like that.

They're certainly a rarity here in England.

but going to ask anyhow, What in the world is a mangle?? What does it look like? It sounds awfully handy whatever it is...

You can see photos of some modern mangles here (http://www.elektrostore.se/vitvaror.asp?iProdId2=46&iProdId3=&sProdDescr=&x=17&y=8). The first one is similar to the one we have in our common laundry room.
Older models are hand powered and often with rolls of stone instead of wood. They give an even better result.

those do look awfully handy! I can never bring myself to iron 9 billion yards of fabric. I know "bad sewer, bad, bad, bad" With one of those though...
