I need your help. Has anybody of you seen linen batiste, either at an on line store or in London (Yes, addressing Teddy,Peronel and Bess). I'm talking really thin stuff, like fine handkerchiefs. It needn't be cheap, only cheaper than 125 $ or 66£ per yard, which is what it cost three years ago here in Sweden in the only place I've found it. It's for the shawl/neckerchief for my folk costume.

I've heard recently about Ulster Linen (http://www.pagelinx.com/ulsterlinen/pcgd2004.pdf), but it's Irish, Belgian and Czech linen via New York, and you have to buy a lot at once. If you think you can use up a lot, or are willing to pay the cutting upcharge, it's reputedly glorious stuff at 2.8 oz. From what I heard, the more expensive stuff (at $27.00/yd.) is whimperingly beautiful. But they also have swatch cards if you want to investigate first.

Glorious transparent stuff. But the business committment (complete with a future business of US$100) is fairly ferocious.

Yes, too much investment and strange rules. And I only need one yard.

Sorry - can't think of anywhere where you could get linen like that. That said, I'm goign to be doing a shopping trip to London in a few weeks, hopefully. If I do see anything, what length would you like? I'll probably have to get it then and there rather than send you a sample and go back - London is three hours away so I don't get there often. But if you're happy to take a gamble that it might not be what you want, I'm happy to do so.

Best,

Peronel.

If you know of any place that _might_ have it, just tell me where, I'm going to London in 1 1/2 weeks time.

That makes much more sense :)

Hmmm. Okay, for 'high quality' cloth, the place to go is Libertys of London, just off Oxford Circus. They're very much catering to the modern market, so it's anyone's guess whether they have linen, but if they do it'll probably be both good and expensive.

That's the only place that springs to mind, I'm afraid. If I find anything I'll let you know.

I don't know where to find any either, but last itme I was in Libertys, I was very disappointed by the range of fabrics they had.
