Our minister of foreign affairs died yesterday morning of the wounds caused by the knife attack I wrote about earlier.
I don't really feel like talking about it and I sure as hell don't feel like going to an event this afternoon and be merry in medieval clothes.
On the other hand; I think everybody feels the same and it might be good being with other people.
I have to go to the event anyway, because it's our event and it's a university and I will be giving a lecture on "Clothing and the creation of gender in the middle ages". It's the most advanced lecture I've given at the university, I've talked about it at the real university where I work, but not to the medieval society before.

Other lectures given are:
"The Cathars"
"Muslim Spain and the reconquista"
"Dress in the Codex Manesse" (early 14th century german manuscript)

There should have been a lecture on navigation in the middle ages too, but the woman who was going to give it had to go to a relative who's taken ill.

This is a special event also, because it's the first when we officially have invited people from outside Nordrike, the national medieval society Nylose (us)are a part of. So there will be some people from the local SCA group and i hope that this will be the beginning of more contact and cooperation. Our groups have differences in culture and ambition but I think that we can have fun anyway.
You see, for my experience and fun, my own equipment, clothes etc is vital, but my brains edits out other peoples mistakes, as long as they're not made from crushed stretch velvet. And I haven't seen that in SCA Sweden for ten years.

Well, maybe I should prepare my lecture, at least choose which slides of Scandinavian medieval art I'm going to use.

Oh, Eva, I heard about this yesterday! That's so horrible. Has there been any word on who did it and why? Man, it's such a crazy world...

This far nobody knows. They are working on the theory that it's a mentally disturbed person, probably homeless, who feels that she's betrayed people by her opinion in the current debate on whether Sweden should join the European Monetary Union or not. She is a social democrat and recently posed with the boss of Ericsson and while politics certainly make strange bedfellows a lot of people feels that she has betrayed the cause of "the little people".
I thnk she has too, but then I think most of the Social Democratic party in Sweden has stopped caring about the working class and more about the middle class anyway, so I wasn't disappointed.

I just can't see why the good people have to be killed. Our prime minister Olof Palem in 1986 (I was 17 at the time) and now Anna Lindh who among other things stood up against war and against the treatment of the palestinians.

I'm so sorry your country had this tragedy. I'm saddened at the thought of loosing yet another open society to fanatisism, terrorism, and the like.
