I've been doing some work on the sleeves on the black gown.
My mother and stepfather are here now and I'm going to help my mother with her hair for a fancy dinner they're going to. It will be at least 1930s-inspired, since she has made the dress from 1936 in PoF 2. It looks really cool and there will be pictures on my web site later. The problem with the hair is that she has long hair and shoulder length or shorter was the fashion then. And that I've never done anybody's hair except 14th century braids.
Oh, and I didn't get my six hours tonight either, a combination of waking baby and hurting body. Sigh.

Fingerwaving/Marcel Wave

Do a version of the Marcel wave. Have you got curling tongs? If so, then separate the hair into either centre or a side parting (depending on which your mum likes and which suits better).

Take sections of the hair and curl one way to get a curve and then the otherway to get the opposite type of curve (hope that makes sense!). Do this along the hair at the front.

Then the length from nape of neck can simply be plaited in two long plaits and then folded over themselves at the base of the head at the back. A pretty comb keeps it all in place.

Have a look at these sites: http://www.hairarchives.com/private/victorian1new.htm

Hope this all helps.

Bess.

Keep changing the number after "fwpage" till you get to 6 - thats the last page!

Ideally you should use a setting lotion - can't advise on that cos I am terrified of using that sort of stuff. Probably useful to wet/dampen the hair as you make each "curl" and clip them tightly was satisfied with them.

The instructions suggest putting a hair net over the whole head once the waves are done. This is probably a good idea and then to dry the hair gently on a low heat.

Then use copious amounts of hair spray!

I've done a version of this myself but I had only me to do it! It still worked quite well though my hair was a little more "floaty" than the sleek 1930s style should be. Still, "joe public" recognised it as a 1930s hairstyle!

Good luck.

Bess.
