The 70s

Maybe I should mention that we had a corner couch, five seats in one way and three or for in the other covered in the same fabric as Maja's dress when I was little. The "wood" parts (boards made from sawdust and glue) were really dark green and we had orange wallpaper and a green wall to wall carpet with this. This was in "gillestugan", a social room in the basement that was popular to have during the 70s, for more informal socializing.

well my room in the 70s looked like this:
1 wall with wallpapper with BIG (dia 30-50cm?) psycadelic flowers in orange, yellows, browns and greens.
3 walls with a striped wallpaper in orange and yellows
a checked/medalion patterned thick carpet in orange and brown

furniture was painted in bright yellow and i had a big bright orange-red lamp. apparantly my parents thought this was nice and trendy! and supposedly it was...

when i was 13 i finally got my room refurbished. i was a very happy girl!

Wow, that would have been a very bright room. Your room called a gillestugan sounds a lot like the room here called a "family room", where the kids could play and have friends over and was for more relaxed socializing. Now, the trend is away from family rooms, and the living room is where all the socializing happens. Except in my house where it mainly seems to happen in the kitchen. :)

Our kitchen is a typical 70s kitchen (at least typical for flats in Sweden) which is shaped like a T, with the stove, fridge and stuff along the "leg" and a little square in the end where I have a cupboard with my medieval eating stuff, pitchers etc and a table. This area is open to the living room where we do _everything_ , including eating in front of the telly. Mostly I sit there and sew and drink tea with my friends while Rickard plays games on the computer in the computer room which is smal and will be turned into Maja's room in the autumn.
