frualeydis: (corset)

Instead of working on the sleeves for the black gown (which were being very uncooperative yesterday) I made a semi-historical skirt to wear to work tomorrow. That's why I'm not in bed even though it's midnight. It's made from cotton curtain fabric in "indienne" or "chintz" pattern that was popular in the later 18th century. I had six old curtains from it for an 18th century dress so I thought I could use one for a summer skirt. You see, we can't find the box with my smaller sumer skirts so now I can choose between wearing autumn/winter/early spring skirts in wool (not too warm, but too dark) or hippie skirts that have gone through too many washes. Something had to be done. The semi-historical part is that except two seams to make the two pieces into a fabric tube it is all hand sewn. It is also made the way my folk costume skirt, and a lot of 18th century skirts, are with a flat area over the stomach in front, large knife pleats on the rest of the front and sides and tiny gathers in the back. It looks really nice, but I need shorter tops, because long tight tops flattens the nice poof in the back. Tomorrow I'm wearing it with a blouse in blue paisley-y, flowery pattern. Too much pattern, but the shape of the blouse is perfect.
