So, does anyone have a good (preferably on-line)source for real gold thread? I was thinking gold spun around a silk core, but gut gold would be good too, but I doubt they do that anymore. Wire or purl won't work though.

Bjarne Drews would probably know of the best European sources. I don't have his email handy, but he's on H-cost.

They are a Southern California company and used to come to a lot of SCA events. They are good people.

"Flockers" on hornsgatan in stockholm used to have a very beutiful metal thread. although am not completely sure it was real gold, but the price could indicate this as it was almost 1000kr per 100g, or something thereabouts. (it was thin and 100g was many metres).
could be worth a try?

but you make me curious, up to something fun?

/m

Have you ever heard of Kreinik's: http://www.kreinik.com/kshop/home.php?cat=117

They sell genuine metal threads, as well as purl, etc...and real gold or silver paillettes! I have no personal experience with them, but love their catalogue!

One day, I will buy some gold paillettes for a project! Fun to look at their catalogue.

The paillettes are indeed real gold or real silver, but plated. I'd buy the big package m'self-- there are always crazy costumers crazy embroiderers folks around looking for paillettes.

Oh...plated. I had not read far enough to see that. Thanks for alerting me! But, I'd still like some. :)
