Yesterday I, [livejournal.com profile] haugtussa, a norwegian friend of hers and her ex-boyfriend Daniel were going to go to Borås to buy fabric. Mind you, I wasn't going to buy any, I don't have any money. Or maybe just a little. You see, I want to make a version of this garment for my husband, only in reversed colours. I have this absolutely gorgeous thin red wool and now want some blue silk for the embroidered bands.
But, as it turned out, nobody got any fabric, because at Viared (10-20 km before Borås) the car broke down. And it wasn't a small problem either. First we though ti was "just" out of oil, but after Daniel had gone away and bought more oil it turned there was a hole in the actual engine! So the whole engine will have to be replaced!
It took 2 hours before we could get towed away, so we sat by the highway and ate what little candy there was in the car. None of us had eaten anything after breakfast and it was 3 pm before we got on our way home. But the guy with the towing truck had the cutest 10 weeks old puppy, so there's always something.
It was also very sunny, so I got my first sunburn for this summer.
It's really sad with [livejournal.com profile] haugtussa's mother's car, especially since she was going to drive to Norway yesterday evening, but in a way it's good that I never got to Borås to buy any fabric. Of course I should have been at work instead, but I did read through my last chapter and took notes on things to change and also sewed some on a new shift for Maja so it wasn't a total waste.

While waiting for the towing truck I asked [livejournal.com profile] haugtussa about some fine, weave patterned wool she has. In screaming pink. The same pink as on [livejournal.com profile] aeddie's "Calvados project". For obvious reasons she doesn't want to use it as it is, but it was very cheap so she bought it anyway. It turned out that since I wanted it she was willing to sell it to me. She thinks it's 4 or 5 metres of it. If it's 4 metres I will make a kirtle, but if it's 5 metres i feel that I will have to do this gardecorps. I know the colour shows up differently on different screens, but fortunately I have a printed version of the book, which hopefully reproduces the colours correctly, and it's a very strong pink. A little darker and more subdued than Ragnhild's wool, but close enough.
You understand that if there is enough fabric I will have to do it, don't you?
I was going to make a dark blue gardecorps lined in white, which seems to be the most common in all manuscripts but the Manesse Codex, where all women's gardecorps and at least one man's are pink. I think the blue would look better on me, but the pink has to be done! If there's enough fabric.

I jus tfinished the hand sewn shift for Maja that I started on tuesday evening. Now she only needs one more shift and another tunic for Visby.
