...How many cardigans and shawls does one person actually need at work? (Or indeed at all?)
I now have two cardigans, two shawls and a pair of wool socks at my work. That may be just a little too many. I have a norweigan cardigan that lives there more or less permanently, as does the lacy pink wool shawl and the socks, but today I'm wearing a t-shirt with my football team's name on it so I needed a cardigan on my way to work too, it's too cold for just having a t-shirt under the jacket. Then I added a shawl because it looks nice and now I just have too many items of clothing stacked in the right corner of my desk.

...What possessed me to start on a new dress for Fru Ragnhild's Collegium, our event next weekend. It is not as if my closet wasn't full with clothes, some of them only worn once. Or as if I didn't have enough projects already. Anyway, I did, it's a 12th c overdress inspired by this illumination. I know that it's the virgin, but her dress is of the same type as other women's dresses in both this manuscript and other contemporary manuscripts, so it shouldn't be a problem really. In the 12th century the virgin was depicted dressed in contemporary fashionable dress and it is not until at least the 14th century that she starts wearing her own stylized, unfashionable dress.
My dress is not made from striped blue silk brocade but from navy wool that I bought in London (Walthamstow) for 2 £/metre. Teddy, Peronel, Bess and Sarah may recall that it was intended for a 15th c. kirtle but obviously that didn't happen. Instead I machine sewed a 12th c. overdress. I will wear it with a red linen dress under it and a pale mint green wool veil and a belt at the waist. It is tight, but not too tight to pull over the head so all I have to do now is to fell all the seam allowances by had and hem it and then it will be finished. I also want to make a belt from a hand woven ribbon that I have, like this donor is wearing.

In a little less than two hours I'm giving the lecture on Country, population and town in the middle ages. I don't feel perfectly prepared, but I guess it will work out anyway. I spent yesterday at my sister's place, celebrating her engagement to her boyfriend Mattias and it feels like I lost a day. It was really nice and the food was plenty and delicious, but I was robbed of reading and sewing time.
