Fashion as communication by Malcolm Barnard (Routledge. London and New York 1996) is a very good book. It explains both basic and more complex theories on fashion and communication in a relatively accessible and very interesting way.
Just so you know.

I did go out and bought a new lipstick yesterday. I also looked around for a "gold" thing to hang at the end of my girdle, but still can't find anything. I went to a little curiosity shop that has lots of glittery stuff, but nothing that fit. They did have a lovely "silver" necklace with white rhinestones and pearls though that i really wanted. I could get it for 200 SEK, which isn't much really, but since I'm allergic to nickel I'm a bit wary about buying old jewellery. But it was so much me.
But I didn't buy it.
I did buy a pair of cream white lace tights though (at another shop) and a pale pink scarf with a c. 3 cm wide border in gold embroidery in chain stitch around it and some motifs spread over it. It's from viscose but feels like silk and will make a perfect 12th c. veil. I want veils with gold borders (and striped in gold), but I don't want to do the embroidery myself.

You know, they say every woman has something, that's her "thing" and she can't have too many of. For many women it's shoes, for [livejournal.com profile] sarahbellem obviously handbags. For me it's socks/stockings/tights and berets. I only have four berets, but that's more than most people.
