I must have learnt something
Mar. 20th, 2007 09:17 pmThe patterning of Rickard's 16th century doublet is going really good. Yes, I'm on my second toile, but that was expected. If it had been for me I would have gone directly to the real fabric now, doing the small changes then, but since it's for him and I really want it to fit, so I'll make another one tomorrow. If only for the fact that most men have a much lower level of discomfort they will take to look good in period clothes. I will even make a full toile including sleeves, which I seldom do, since I'm pretty good at freehand drafting of sleeves.
But still, with minor tweaks needing to be done it is ten times better than his former doublet, which I made in 2001 and which was way too tight over the chest. It looks ridiculously short, ending at his natural waist, but it will look better with the planned venetians. The thing is, Rickard is shaped much like me; with a very long torso and short legs. Except that, while my torso at least is proportional within itself, The really long part on him is from crotch to waist. So of course the doublet looks really short.
