Happiness!

One of my new colleagues just gave me my very own copy of the report from the 6th NESAT symposium. I have borrowed a friend's copy for almost a decade, but now I have my own!

I really should write about this

My swedish fashion blog has been neglected when it comes to intelligent posts the last months, mostly it's photos of what I'm wearing and of shoes I'm lusting for. I really should be writing something a little more substantial; I even have three topics: Dressing a gender - about femme, queerness and postmodernity in relation to the way one dresses; The natural - about how a natural look is culturally conceived and has very little to do with the unaltered body, and thus also as a defense for artifice in looks and dress and finally an analysis of why it is possible with a revival of the rockabilly style in Sweden now, but wasn't a decade ago.
I just wonder when to find the time and energy, since I am supposed to spend my working days researching and writing about the period 1500-1830 and after work my mind needs to rest.

Maybe I'll steal a day from "real" work next month and write one of these.

Sewing progress on the Candy Dress

The work on the striped 40s dress, which for obvious reasons shall henceforth be known as "the Candy Dress" (new tag added) is progressing nicely. The bodice is partly assembled and I've only had to do some minor adjustments to my drafted pattern (taking in the shoulders, my shoulders aren't very wide, which is a tricky combination with an F-sized bust). As you can see in the photo my fabric has a strong pink stripe instead of red.




The event I'm making the dress for is a burlesque club which takes place approximately once every two months here in Göteborg. I haven't been before, because it always collided with something else, but a lot of my friends go and I'm really looking forward to it. I have also convinced one of the gay guys at work to come along. The club is on the 22nd of May, which is good since I need to make some nice new 40s inspired undies too, especially with the two-way zipper in the dress ;)
