OK, so I haven't done a page in the costume gallery for the pink gardecorps, but it's only 8.40 in the morning on a sunday, so what can one expect?
But I do have a picture of the gardecorps and of my new grey corset with a curved front, inspired by Sempstress' curved front corset. This is "the comfy corset", it doesn't really reduce my waist measurement and has enough room for my bust, which my green kirtle really hasn't. Well of course there's place for them, they're soft and can be compressed a lot, but this is more comfortable. This corset has the same waist measurement as my first corset used to have when it was laced tighter han this, which is good, but the bust measurement is naturally bigger. I can still use my old dresses, because the bodice then holds in the bust a little more. As you can see it is half boned (cable ties) and because it's made from two layers thin but sturdy cotton and one layer silk taffeta it weighs next to nothing compared to my old corset from handwoven linen. It would probably benefit from being taken in a centimetre or two, but I've already taken it in so much that that will have to wait, there is no more room to take it in in the side seams, the boning is too close, so I would have to open it and make seams on the front pieces and I don't want that. Not yet, if it gets too big I will do it.

I love your corset!

(I need a new corset - mine is too big - and am currently pondering designs)

Thank you.
Clothes that get too big is better than those that get too small. You still have to make new clothes, but at least you're thinner.

THis is true.

Although peasant kirtles, if they're too small, can usually still be worn with a stomacher. Once they're too large, you're stuck remaking. *sigh*. I *love* my yellow kirtle, but my breasts shift up and down inside it, which is just not comfortable.

Ohh, one question. How did boning work with the curved front?

I though it would be a problem since cable ties dont bend sideways, but it had worked for Melissa (Sempstress) so I tried it and it was no problem at all.

So did you make the boning channels curved (to follow the edge of the corset) and just shove the cable ties down them? Or is the bit of the corset which curves out unboned?

I can't quite visualise how this would work!

Yes, curved channels and miraculously the cable ties fit in them. Not so miraculaously actually, they just bend the fabric so they can bend inwards and outwards instead of sideways. I don't have a boning diagram to show you, but Missa's that I link to in my post shows a similar pattern.

Very pretty corset! How is it on the hips though as I notice its not tabbed?

I made it rather short in the sides and back (had to cut it down, or should it be up in this case?) so it doesn't dig in. probably 1-2 cm above the natural waist. Having a very long torso I can get away with that without looking like my upper body is too short.

It's nice that the world is filling up with people waring half boned comfy corsets. Mine is much loved, and I'm so glad I made it.

And you look just like a big merengue in the new gardecorps. Quite cute really. I like it.

Aieee, the pink, it hurts my eyes!!!

Anyway, you realise that this means that if you wear that thing, I'll either have to wear my pink mi-parti gown just for the colour clash or stay as far from you as possible...

*shocked* I always thought that all repro corsets had curved fronts. I can't believe that I haven't noticed that they don't have it... neep
