Double Wars photos
May. 18th, 2015 08:18 amLast week was Double Wars, the biggest SCA event in the Kingdom of Drachenwald (Europe + Israel and South Africa). It's amixed event in that people can both camp and sleep indoors and due to my health we are staying indoors. I twas a wise decision this year since it was rainy and rather cold much of the week. I still miss camping though.
Valeria had a test in school and Vendela worked and then she was going to England to see her boyfriend, so it was only Rickard, Maja and me who went. Despite the raining, and despite Rickard getting some short-lived stomach bug which kept him in bed one day and rather weak the following day we had a good time. I got to meet
chargirlgenius for the first time, since she was the guest teacher - Double Wars has a very extensive A&S programme (you can see it here), and I got to hang out with
liadethornegge,
litensessa,
northernotter and
helwig, among others.
I taught two classes: "Sex in the Middle Ages", which was a built out verison of my "Same-sex sexuality in the Middle Ages" class, with hetero sex and some stuff about marriage added, and "16th century women's clothing in Sweden". Both had listeners and went well. I went to Genvieve la Flechiére's
bend_gules class on illumination, where I got to try a quill from a goose, and to Duchess Cassandra's class on 16th century women's clothing in Venice. I liked both, though there wasn't that much that was new to me in the latter.
We had two royal courts and Cecilia Jaeger, who has (among many other things) organized the event for many years was made a Pelican. This is the first time that I've seen the making of a Pelican, I've seen Knights and a Laurel before. Though unfortuntately I haven't been able to attend any of my friends' laurellings.
The Knäckebörd war was won by the holey side, so of course we are all in mourning now, since my family and I are flat siders ;)
On the less official side Maja turned eleven on Tuesday, so we bought lots of ice cream cake (she doesn't like normal cake) and invited all the kdis in camp. Among the presents she got at hat for her new 16th century German garb, made by one of her friends, who is 14.
I put up photos of Maja wearing the hat, of some of my outfits and other stuff from the event over at Eva's historical costume, so go check there.
