Yesterday Vendela took a picture of me in my tudor bonnet. I'm only wearing one coif instead of maybe three as in the artwork and the coif is the wrong shape and not wired, but you get the idea:

impressed! very nice!
if i ever come around to finish that tudor dress, i will definately be in want of one :)

curious: what kind of yarn, needles and gauge (before felting)?

Some rather thin wool yarn I ghad gotten from my mother. it was 2-ply I think and smelled from lanolin. I used 2,5 needles and started on 140 stitches. After 3 rows i increased one stitch every 15 stitches, after nother three row every 16th stitc etc until I increased every 30th stitch. Then I started decreasing. Unfortunately, since I don't know much about this I decreased too quickly. I followed the same pattern but decrased every second row. That made the top too small so I had to cut away a piece. In retrospect I would say start on 120 stitches, increase on every 12th stich until every 22nd stitch or something and then decrease in the same pace as you increased.
But I'm not really an experienced knitter, so I'm not sure.

How did you felt it? In the washing machine?

Yep!
I tried hand felting, but it didn't felt enough. It felt very final to close the lid on the washing amchine. I washed it in 40 c with liquid soap.

Gorgeous! It looks like it felted very well, no stitches visible at all on my screen. And now you always have the "mushroom" option open for unplanned masquerades! :-D
