however small:
* The gingerbread house is decorated with icing and M&Ms (not really, but very similar candy)
* The second pink striped leg warmer is almost finished
* I sent money to
flummoxicated for the postage for my latest sock order. I however sent the wrong amount, 10$ instead of 11. This is probably due to the fact that Maja was sitting in my lap whining while I was doing it and that I have gotten very little sleep the last week due to her being sick. Will have to be corrected tomorrow.
* I picked up three packages from the post, one with fabric, one some of the kids' christmas presents and one a book from a book club that we forgot to cancel.
* Made meatballs for dinner and for friday night when we will sit down and eat late after the ham and everything else for christmas is finished. This is called "Uppesittarkvällen" which means "staying up night" and is the time when you sit down, take some glögg (mulled red wine, some of the christmas ham, christmas candy etc and just relax, knowing that all is finished for tomorrow. I don't like christmas ham so the meatballs are mainly for me. We're celebrating christmas at my sister's place this year so all we have to make is the ham that we're going to bring.
Tomorrow I will make chocolate fudge and knäck and
armillary will come over too.

Date: 2005-12-22 10:34 am (UTC)The mozart balls are sugar on the attack (as is appropriate for christmas candy) a cube of nougat, wrapped in marzipan lightly scented with rose oil/rose water, dipped in melted chocolate. Yum Yum. One year we went artistic and dipped the marzipan balls in light chocolate and drizzled dark chocolate over them after a little while, making them all stripey and pretty.

Children help make the Christmas candies and wrap them in fancy paper. On January 13, Saint Canute's Day, they rob the Christmas tree of all its candies and gingersnap hearts. - Introduction/recipe courtesy of Parenthood.com
Ingredients
1 cup sugar
1 cup dark corn syrup
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup choped blanched almonds (without skins)
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
Directions
Combine first 3 ingredients in heavy 2-quart saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, 50 minutes, or until mixture forms a firm ball when small amount is dropped into ice water (or 246 degrees F.) on candy thermometer.
Add almonds and baking powder and mix well. Spoon into small fluted paper or foil cups. (Or pour mixture into measuring cup with spout and pour into fluted cups.)
Let stand at room temperature until firm. Store in single layers between waxed paper in tightly covered box in cool place. Makes about 5 dozen.
