Machine sewing velvet

Hi girls! (and boys)
Do you know what I just did?
I pinned cotton velvet (or velveteen, I haven't checked if the nap was made from the warp or the weft) right side to right side to the slinky rayon twill and sewed it. And it worked!! It almost didn't creep at all, the nap _is_ very short, but I'm still surprised it worked so well.
Now I just need to attach the sleeves and make the plastron/stomacher thing and the actual dress is finished. Then I _just_ need to make the false undersleeves, the english hood and a smock with a square low neckline and puffy sleeves. I only have high-necked smocks with puffy sleeves or low-necked smocks with straight sleeves.

There will be pictures eventually. I feel fat and bloated right now and just don't feel like putting it on.
I got the sleeves sewn yesteray so now it's only the plastron, the sleeves, the hood and the smock. Since I already have a french hood I will probably take pictures ofteh dress before I've made the new hood. I may fake it with the smock too, using false wide sleeves or something. There are no good sources for thin linen here in town and I know I don't have enough for a smock at home

The dress in my pic is in velvet... or, rather, it used to be a pair of velvet curtains, actually too heavy to make e really good dress, but the colour was a must-have. *And* I machine-sewed it -- possibly because a) I was in a hurry and b) I hadn't heard any horror stories about it. :P

What Tudor timeframe is it? I have several metres of a chestnut velvet which is reserved for a Tudor project some time in the future. At the moment I just don't have the energy, though...

The bad thing is to sew velvet to something slippery, like a lining on machine.
I am mainly inspired by pictures from Holbein's first visit to England in the late 1520s-early 1530s.

OK, I'm leaning more toward the second visit (that's because I want a farthingale!). But I am eagerly looking forward to seeing your finished dress!
