Yesterday was the last day of the evening course in "Textile- and Costume history" at the university of Boras, that I've been responsible for this semester. Even though I hated going there every tuesday night (60km by bus) when I was ill, as I have been almost all autumn, it still felt good but a little sad when we met for the last time yesterday. The students had an assignment to read 800 pages on a topic within the framework of the course and then make both a written report and presentation to the rest of us. And they were so good. I teach in some other courses too, here at the department of history, but they are more of the traditional type where you finish with a test. In this course they have done group work and individual work, both written and presentations, and it's so great to see how interested and engaged people are in their studies.
The different lectures have also been very interesting, the course is built mainly on guest lecturers telling about their research or specialty, and a lot of the things they talked about were new to me to (like modern textile art).
The bad things, mainly caused by my inexperience as the organizer of a university course and my illness, where really bad at the time and made med feel so inadequate, but now that it's done I can appreciate all the good things too. Like my students.
