I am done

I am currently printing out my manuscript. All 239 pages.
Now I need to make a front page. Then I wil take all of it and make two copies. One for my mentor and one for the other professor who's going to comment on it. I need my own copy to see if I find things I want to change too.
I don't really know how I feel. I should be bouncy but I mostly feel weird. Some kind of suppressed excitement maybe? And nervosity.

Well done

Perhaps you will feel better about it when the shock of reachign this stage wears off?

Ooooo...

So, do you still need that magical Excel trick? Our resident Word-programmer (the CEO) is on a business trip, but I could stay a while tonight and play with the programs if you need it.

No, we'll work on that when we prepare it for printing. There will be some celebration on friday though. Just the closest people from the department and Rickard, but you're welcome. We're going to a pub around six thirty.

Sounds good; I was just thinking that I was overdue for some quality pub time :)

I thinks it's perfectly natural to feel weird after putting in so much time, focus and energy into something, and then realising it's done. It's probably your brain that's sort of left in the wrong gear. For me, those situations (and I've never been near the dissertation level) always feel anti-climactic. Also, handing something over that one has put that amount of work into could make anybody a bit nervous... :)

Woo! It is a kind of weird feeling though, the whole, "Shouldn't I be feeling more now?" feeling.

Congratulations on finishing it! Yay! When will it be in its finished and final version?

Every major change for me is always so anti-clamactic, like I think there should be more excitment than there is, but I'm usually so tired and just happy to be done.

congratulations!!!!

I know a MSc isn't nearly the same scale, but when I handed my thesis in, I mostly felt "now they can point out all the crap and fail me". Plus, you SHOULD feel weird: you've had this huge thing in your life for years, and now it's over. Yay! What's next for you?

well, there will be things to fix when I get teh comments. Then there's layout and setting and a lot of practical things, like negotiating with printers. Then, in May, I will defend it ppublicly (I guess there will be 50-100 people there). I have some courses I have to take and then I will be a doctor and as a doctor of history, I will probably be unemployed ;)
I will apply for research grants of course and hopefully I will get more teaching opportunities. But I don't worry about that now.
