It should have been black!

Today I finally got around trying to dye my yellow velvet black so that I could use it for the loose gown from Patterns of Fashion. I used lots of dye, like 90 $ worth of Dylon machine dye, and salt and it looked good, the water being all black in the machine.
One hour later I open the washing machine and take out this gorgeous dark forest green velvet!! it's absolutely wonderful, but definitely not black.
I don't really feel that I've lost something. Now I have to look around for black cotton velvet or velveteen with a short pile before I can start on the gown. On the other hand I have this gorgeous green velvet, in a colour that is hard to find in shops, that probably will become something german as soon as I get my waist back.

If you didn't keep it yellow - a dark green is the next best to get.

I know! It's absolutely perfect!
I just wonder what to do with it. I'm thinking about being a copycat and make something like this (http://homepage.mac.com/festive_attyre/feature/yr3/week120.html). When I stop looking like I've swallowed a large football.
A friend suggested a houppelande, but I have issues with a group of people here in Sweden who make late 14th early 15th c clothes and I really don't want to look like them.
Probably I'll end up doing something from Hans Weigel's Trachtenbuch. German 1570s, can it get better?

Well, copycatting that outfit in green velvet would look stunning.

Just becasue those people do 14th/15th century garb shouldn't stop you from doing it too. If you don't hang-out with them, you arent likely to be mistaken for one of them. I love houpellandes and they tend to fit a variety of shapes and sized (your undergown is what would need to fit whatever current size you happen to be). My big green houp has hidden lacings inside at the back so I can let it out or take it in without it showing on the outside (the pleats are sewn down to the inner body around the waist, otherwise it wouldn't need the lacings).
Dark green and German is a good combination too.

So many options.

Speaking of which.. I'm going to cough up and order the book myself.... I'm sure I read the Dover edition has full colour plates...

Now... to order via Borders... and pick it up in town... or order via amazon or something and get it sent to me....

I get asked if I'm Australian when dressed entirely in yellow and green (and if I'm a Norwich football fan). When I was a student, British Petrolium were running a series of ads on TV where everyone was dressed in yellow and green (their colours) and I was also asked if i was a shareholder or advertising BP.

There was a song recently about "Who would name their kid Bruce anyway" which I found offensive... I can understand if they asked why they'd name their kid Dick.... but Bruce???

SO many people now hate the name of Bruce because it was either randomly chosen for the song or the boys had a bad experience with a bloke called bruce...

I won't be changing my surname because of it though.
Despite other people's silly preconceptions aboutt he colours/name why change something that works?

Mind you, the chances of me knowing any modern song is remote.

Perhaps they just don't like Australians - Over here, at least, Bruce is the steriotype name for an Australian man... Have you seen/heard the Monty Python philosophers sketch?
