After the discussion with [livejournal.com profile] myladyswardrobe some days ago I decided that it was worth the work to take in the kirtle again. So I unpicked the seam that held the skirt and bodice together in the front. Luckily I had made the bodice and skirt as separate pieces and stitched them together so it was easy to sew them together again. Then I cut off the bidice sides, skimming the lacing holes in the bottom and taking more further up. It may be a little too tight in the waist now, but I don't have to lace it all close then. I then sewed the edges together and have started on new lacing holes. Unfortunately I have very little buttonhole silk in that colour at home, so I have only been able to make three tonight. I didn't insert any boning because I wanted to keep the round and soft shape that is seen on the pregnant women. That will make the kirtle useful for german clothing too.

I have also read some more in the Tudor Tailor and I am going to get so many worsted aprons! (I need more kirtles too, luckily worsted wool is cheap where I live). There is one that belongs to my folk costume and I love wool aprons.

Ooh! didn't think I had said very much about it!! I'm sure the revamped kirtle will look great though.

Just talking about it made a difference and I somehow continued the conversation in my head. And _you_ wouldn't wear a too big kirtle!

No, true - I wouldn't wear a too big kirtle, but I'd probably end up making a second one!

Which I will be doing. Actually two will be done over the next few months as my sister wants one as well! Fitting session this Saturday! She can be the guinea pig for getting the fit right before I do mine!! Hee hee!
