If these statues are depicting the Virgin Mary, she was basically always wearing red and blue garbs throughout the Medieval times and the Renaissance. Blue represented her heavenly divinity, while red was her earthly love. There are a few exceptions to the rule, and then she's basically always seen in gold, as to show her glory (especially in Byzantine works).
