Short hair

I had so many split ends that I had to cut another 6-7 cm off my hair yesterday. I have no idea where they come from, I've never had problems with split ends before. And it's not like I've been using heat on my hair the last 15 or so years. I used to dye it, but not that often, I've used only a boar bristle brush for the last ten years and I don't wash it more often than every five days or so, with a mild eco-friendly, silicone-free shampoo. It used to be longer between, but since I started using conditioner I have to wash my hair much more often. And that's the funny thing, the split ends are coming now, the last month, when I'm using conditioner and henna+indigo as dyeing and use a comb for detangling instead of the brush. Somehow I think I was right before and wrong now.
Anyway, that means I've cut about 20 cm (8 inches) since christmas and now it's only bra-strap length. I might have cut it shorter if it wasn't for the event-season starting now. I need hair that can be put up.

And it looks so damn short now!! I miss my hair, but I hated looking at the ends.

I'm going to need a haircut soon as well. I seem to drop less broken hairs these days, but it's too long to be fashionable 14th c, which kinda was the idea...

Of course, to be *properly* fashionable I should grow a beard and moustache. And I doubt that's a good idea.

Stay away from moustaches and beards. It's only the later part of the 14th century anyway and it seems to have been a thing adopted mostly be the extremely fashionable. Or, as it had been before, worn onlty bu the old and middle-aged.

I sent you an e-mail about Visby yesterday, did you get it? If so, please answer. Anna wants to go on friday, how does that look for you?

Do you have any good pictures of late 14th cent guys with facial hair? My husband would be *quite* interested - he already has a somewhat modernized version of the sort of "bowl cut" hairstyle, and he has a goatee because I won't let him shave it off (he looks SO much better with it) so it'd be nifty to see how close he's actually getting to a period look.

Of course, if I show him that he might make good on his promise to shave the bottom of his hair off for Pennsic. Not sure how I feel about that...

P.S. I'm an American Cream fan too - though I find that I have to use it as a leave-in conditioner rather than a rinse-out conditioner, just because my hair is THAT dry. And unfortunately, since I've been fighting, I have to wash my hair after I get any helm-time in, so my hair isn't really happy with that...

The part that is at the ends now must be years old. It could be affected by anything you've done in that time (pregnancy? eating habits?). Or it could be what you think of course - hair quality is really quite a mystery to me, though mine seems to depend mostly on how much I eat.
Also, I cut about 10cm off my boyfriend's hair on saturday. It was his first haircut in a year, so it looks Much Better now. (He lets someone cut it every time we're going to a wedding. No wait, he didn't for his brother's wedding.) And my hair is definitely longer, så det så! :-P

i think also as the air has been rather dry the past few months too, it is likely it is just the result of the past winterchills...

me too badly need a haircut of at least 10-15 cm, although i should probably be brave and take of 20-25. but i don't want to, so i won't!

I think you are lucky to be able to grow your hair that long!
Mine is so fine that whatever I do, it never grows beneath where I suppose a bra-strap would be.

just another thought, depending on what kind of conditioner you use and if this contains silicone.

expensive conditioner actually pays off! one wants something that actually goes into the hair and not clogs the hair on the exterior (that is you want short silicone polymer chains ;). t
i sincerely do recommend Redken 5th Avenue's SOFT series (with avodcado oil).

and yes, it is _riduculously_ expensive in sweden (almost 300:-/ 300ml bottle), but it works wonders and is worth every penny! i've used their schampoo, conditioner and heavy cream for the past 6 years, and my hair has never been healthier. in particualr i like the "heavy cream" (which has shorter polymer chains than the conditioner and which is why the order you use your hair products is important. the conditioner should go in last, independent of what other products one uses. it have the longest chains and thus seals the hair off) and thus goes further into your hair.

1. it last you for a very very long time, i would say my hair only uses up a bottle a year (maybe because i only wash my hair every 5-7 days or so?).

2. it doesn't clog on your hair and give it a greasy feeling.
i used to huse different moderately expensive conditioner before, and i always ended up whitish icky clogginess on my comb and a slightly greasy hair wich i had to wash often.

3. if you can get someone to buy it in the US one can get a 1000ml bottle for less than 25 USdollars, and then it is not even very expensive anymore!

I use Lush American cream which is silicone free. It has a strong scent of benzoin though which is funny, because I use that a lot for incense.

Where do you buy it?

Somehow I think I was right before and wrong now.

This is entirely possible-- hair is very individual. Were you experiencing problems when you started using conditioner and the comb? (I used to LOVE Herbal Essesnce chamomile scented, but now it doesn't work for my hair anymore... boo.)

Also, what amonik said about the age of the hair on the ends...

My hiar is gettign to a reasonably long length again now (within a smidge of being nipple-length) but the curl make it look shorter.

The best condition it was ever in was the several years when I gave up washing it altogether.

I've recently gone no-cone and no-brush (well, boar's bristle a couple times a week to distribute oils) and my hair seems to be loving it. I was using a fairly expensive American brand called Aveda but I'm using Lush now and my hair is doing great. I switch between using Daddy-O/American Cream and Ultimate Shine Bar Shampoo/Jungle Conditioner Bar. It took a little bit to get used to the bar products but I love them now. I wash my hair about every 5-7 days and rarely heat dried it prior to the 'conversion' and now it hasn't been heat dried since early February. Lots' of shine, lots of waves/curls, no more frizz. And my somewhat flaky scalp seems to be getting better too. It's still too soon to tell if it's growing faster (I'm taking hair vitamins too), but I have hopes. Right now it's about BSL.

I'm thinkng about giving up the henna-indigo mix and not dye at all anymore. The main purpose of it was to get the beneficial effects of henna without getting red hair. I used Lush's Caca Brun and it came out very close to my natural ash brown hair colour so I don't really need it for colour. Henna seems to help against psoriasis in the scalp though.

How about colourless henna? I guess you could get the beneficial effects from that too, since it's said to contain all the tanning agents which might help with the psoriasis, just without the colour.

I've "converted" in February, too - from using lots of curl foam(?) and hot hair drier to silicone-free conditioner, sour rinses and cold hair drier without foams and stuff. I really didn't believe before that I could live without curl foam and hot air, but these two showed to be just based on each other - since I left away one of those, I don't need the other one as well. So far it's hard to tell any difference besides that, but I really hope that I can get to grow more hairdo material beyond bra-strap length.

Greetings, Gea

After my sisters birth my mother lost hair by the handful. Pregnancy is hard on the body. Since hair grows about an inch a month, I'm guessing that the hair that's breaking off was "born" during that time period.

Here are a few things that will help while your hair is growing out:

Jojoba oil on the ends every night, and then put up so it doesn't tangle while you sleep.

Biotin 1500 mcg daily. It should also help with skin issues. It really does work, but it will take a bit before you see significant results.

Good luck!

No, the parts that have been cut of are over three year old and Maja is two today. I always put up my hair when sleeping, I don't like waking up, suffocated by my own hair ;)
I will look around for the biotin, that name isn't used in Sweden, but I think it's vitamin B 8.

Actually, Biotin is Vitamin H.

Thanks. Anyway, I just found out you're not supposed to take it while nursing.
