Tomorrow is the last day at school for the twins and I have made a new skirt for Valeria. (Vendela doesn't wear skirts.) This is how it looks

She will be wearing chinese mary janes, a red top and if it's cooler tomorrow, as they say it will be, red and black striped over the knee socks (on her they're more of a thigh high really). I think she will look pretty cool. As for Vendela I just hope that she will wear something reasonably clean. They are at their dad's place this week so I can't check and persuade her. Valeria has just gotten interested in clothes, but Vendela, though she has very firm opinions on what she wants to wear, hasn't got that interest yet. After all, they're not twelve yet.

She will be allowed to wear it every day. It's just printed cotton, a rayon lining and some soft tulle I had since the 80s. I won't let her go out and climb on things and play, but that's the only reservation. Currently she's using the skirt I made to her for christmas every day. It's the same model but with a zipper instead of elastic and made from black very thin wool tabby and with bright blue lace peeping out below the hem.

Oh, how cute! And a bit of comfort-- I didn't really care about clothes until I was about 14. Clean was about my level of interest.

I think it's rather normal to not care about clothes at that age. I didn't get interested seruiously before I was 15, so I actually am fascinated that she's interested in clothes this early.

It has a very retro-80's look. I'll bet she looks a knockout in it.

Wonderful! Will we get to see pictures of her dressed up?

Some girls just don't acquire the real interest for dressing up, and for some it might come much later. She might also be trying to distinguish herself from her sister if her sister is into dressing up now. The important thing is really only that in whatever way we she does want to assert herself, she gets that support. When I was young, I got support from my mother for most things, but the opposite from my father--he was quite harsh, all the way even through my college education. And I can see the ways in which that left me damaged. It's so amazing how much of who we are is a result of what we experienced as children...[tangent]
