Always keep track of the alterations you do to you toiles/pattern pieces you have lying around. I tried on my too big 18th c. stays (it meets in the back now) some days ago, found the pattern and used it to make a smaller trial pair of stays, with a V front opening and a stomacher. I sewed it together, sewed on some cotton tape to put at least some boning in it and made 40 buttonholes on the machine to lace through, since [livejournal.com profile] linespace still has my lacing strips. This was at least three hours of work. And for what? It turned out I had already made the original toile smaller so the trial corset was WAAY too small. I found this out yesterday.
Then I took my "christmas corset" which fits me well, put the old, but changed, pattern pieces on it, saw that it would fit and cut a new corset, with some alterations. I cut the pieces from the fashion fabric, a weird but wonderful shot cotton/linen grosgrain in lime green and strong pink, just like that and hope that it will fit.
I had originally intended to make a version of those lovely pink 17th century stays at the V&A, but I will settle for Diderot's 18th century stays instead.
My plan is to wear them with a wide skirt at [livejournal.com profile] linespace's wedding on the 23rd of September.

How annoying! I hope it work better now. *encourages you heavily into making 18th century*
