was really quiet tonight. Just me, Anna and [livejournal.com profile] armillary. But that made for a very cosy and nice practice where we focused on learning a new song. It's called Douce Dame as so many other medieval songs and is a jeu-parti (two person debate) from the 12th century on the theme of who is the most worthy lover: a good knight without social skills or an educated, polite and accomplished courtier who's not brave?
Like all music from the 12th century the melody is built in a very different way from music from the later Middle Ages, but we managed to work it out and it sounds lovely. Weird to the unaccustomed ear, but beautiful.

I also borrowed a book today (actually three, but I'm only telling about one). It's called Dressing renaissance Florence - Families, fortunes and fine clothing by Carole Collier Frick. Has any of you read it? I doubt I'll have the time to read it before christmas.

I have read it. I'm not an expert on the period or the place by any means, but I enjoyed her attention to detail. And the lovely portraits didn't hurt either. :)

Jag tror att jag måste sluta i kören på riktigt. Har man inte ens lyckats ta sig till hälften av repetitionerna känns det inte som någon idé faktiskt.

I'm quite envious of your little choir...
