At least this solves the problem of whether to wear sheer tights/thigh highs or thicker socks to the viva. I could of course wear a skirt that goes to my ankles too.

And I did make it home without trouble, it was just the start that was a little bumpy.

Biking and drinking seriously don't mix - as the four holes drilled through the skullbone of my father will attest to.

Ouchie! Poor you!

Been there - done that; took 4 tries (falls?)last one left me with broken glasses and a great big blooming purple and red rose around my eye - finally learned my lesson - DON'T DRINK (a lot) AND BIKE. I'm with you.

Pah! Foreigners! I recall from my student days (or rather recall the absence of recollections) a nice party which went on for far too long, and the combination of fatigue and alcohol and a 30 km bike trip through the night. 20 km of the trip were on very familiar roads I had biked a thousand times before, the unfamiliar part I could still recall, but about 5-10 km of the familiar stretch were just missing from memory, I obviously made it, without falling or bumping into any trees, and recall the last 3 km or so of the trip. The rest of that trip I must have biked sleeping, eyes open on autopilot, or in some kind of zombie-mode.

You should have started biking before you could walk, and bike at least 2 hours each day, on average, then you probably would have made it. Or perhaps it's just the absence of hills over here which takes the edge out of a drunken bike trip. Mind the canals though...

(However, I've made it a firm rule not to mix alcohol and motorbikes *at all*)
