The new government has presented their budget. Not surprisingly the main ingredients are lowering taxes for people with higher and medium incomes while cutting in the unemployment benefits and paid sick leave.
They also plan to increase the unemployment. They don't say why, but it is probably part of their plan to create a low-wage segment in swedish society so that we also will have people who work more than full time but can't support themselves on their wages; like in the US. It's supposed to be good for people.

In short: they're evil and they hate the sick, the handicapped and anyone less fortunate than themselves. Being born in a working class family, with a chronic disease or handicapped should apparently be punished; since it must be our own fault somehow.

I don't usually attribute people's opinions and actions to malice, stupidity is a much more plausible explanation, but in this case I'm afraid there can't be any doubt. These people are not stupid; they are just totally selfish and lack even the most basic level of empathy.

Yep. That seems to sum it up pretty well. Unfortunately.

"These people are not stupid; they are just totally selfish and lack even the most basic level of empathy."

My deepest sympathies dear. It made me very, very sad, when I heard the news on the radio!

Your statement pretty much covers the folks that are now in power in the U.S. From top to bottom a bunch of self-serving, self-righteous, war-mongering criminals.

What puzzles me most about what has happened here, and what I simply cannot understand, is how people that are directly hurt by these laws, have been convinced that putting a greater burden on the lower and middle classes to enrich the already abundantly rich, is a good thing.

I fear the evil times are upon us.

It's the rich who have the power (read: money) to put pressure on the lawmakers to create these problems. And people are always hoping to be a member of the abundantly rich.

What they don't realize is that they're creating the situation for a class war like the the French Revolution, or the Communist overthrow of the Russian Nobility.

I think you're absolutely correct.

Maybe, but by and large the American populace is far to complacent, for now. I think it would take far worse before the people would rouse themselves. Frankly the idea of either scenarios is pretty appalling!

Sorry, that was a fault in my writing. I was using the US as an example of a place were people can't support themselves. I must put a comma somewhere to get it right :)

THe only good thing about the current situation is that it will remind people of why we need a leftist (I won't say "socialist", because the SAP hasn't been that since Palme) government. It seems some people need to be reminded of that every 15 years, and then, just as the damage is getting closer to being fixed, they go and vote for those evil fucks again. I don't get it.

Yes. Reintroduce the pomperipossaskatt! It's unfair that somebody who earns 500 000 a year pays 400 000 in taxes, while somebody who earns 200 000 a year only pays 100 000. Equal taxes for Everyone!!! That will teach people to try and work for a living.

you have my gravest sympathies dear!

well, we did all we could to avoid it, but apparantly the majority of the country didn't think likewise. that scares we terribly, and also that i raelise a HUGE amount of my closeest collegues have very sad opinions when it comes to politics... many of them born and brought up in an academic elite world. where sickness and unemployment apprarantly has never been a problem. sometimes i feel like i'm from a very distant planet.
since monday i've been doing my best to ignore complaints like "why didn't they lowered the taxes for estates yet, when they did so for wealth? that's unfair." or the worst statement yet (when discussing the cutting of paid sick leave) "well, surely they who _are_ really sick will still be cared for!".

i really do want to feel respect for my close collegues, but statements like that don't always make it easy.
