Though I'm not that fond of bustle I love the colour scheme of this dress. The ruching in the front looks a little weird though.

Wool dress with no other dating than "end of the 19th century", but lovely strong coloured stripes.

Another dress from the same time and once owned by the same woman. This time in blue.

Servant's uniform from c. 1890. And a detail shot.

Black and white photo of a lovely edwardian dress in burgundy satin and burgundy satin with velvet flowers woven in.

Creme silk evening gown from 1924.

Empire dress in sheer white cotton with embroidery in satin stitch.

Dress from c. 1830 in striped silk grosgrain.

Wedding dress from 1893 In white wool and decorated with swansdown and pearls. Black and white photo unfortunately.

Brown wool crepe dress from 1818. Silk trimmings.

Another wool wedding dress, from 1895.

Silver grey and burgundy natural form dress. I love the decoration at the hem.

Pink silk dress from c. 1890. But it needs to be put on a mannequin that isn't too tall.

Pelisse in white, pleated cotton. Yep you read that right!

Empire dress in gold-brown silk atlas with trimmings in brown velvet.

Pink silk shoes from c. 1750.

A child's silk shoes from c. 1730.

Child's gown from the beginning of the 18th century.

Black silk taffeta gown from the end of the 18th century.

Another black silk late 18th c. dress. The fabric is self-striped.

Quilted jacket from c. 1750

Woo and silk coat from the 1920s.

white muslin dress from the beginning of the 19th century.

Spotted cotton muslin dress. Said to be from the end of the 19th century, but I doubt it.

first, - the black late 1700's gown is wonderful! The only black items i've been able to find before were two brocade petticoats, but this is wonderful.

I've been wondering about one of the regency dresses. Is it a fancy dress costume, or something intended for everyday wear. Too bad it doesn't tell.

LOVE the colors on the second one, the Edwardian dress, the embroidery on the pink and the black silk taffeta most of all.

The black silk taffeta gown is so lovely!
I remember seeing another swedish black taffeta gown in some book somewhere where it had white bows in decreasing sizes all the way down the middle of the front. And white lace bits at the elbows and a few other white elements. I dunno if I can describe it properly, I should just draw it. :) *isn't very specific*
If I ever do 18th century I'd do a copy of one of those and a copy of an image I saw at the Getty.

The combination of silver grey and burgundy was very striking, although the skirt was kinda crazy! ;)

Those two ones rather look like somethign around the 1840s to me, though... Shoulder line, waist, sleeves...

I agree that the 2nd and 3rd dresses look to be solidly 1840's. There's no way you'd have those sloping shoulders at the end of the century.

As for the black tafetta 18th century number, there's something about that which looks a bit off to me. There was a fashion in the 1870's for 18th century inspired fashions (and there's always that fancy dress thing too....). To me the bodice point looks too long and there's too much curve to the wasitline for what I understand as 18th century. Also the gathering at the bottom of the skirt looks wrong for the 18th century but much more like the ruching popular in the 1870's- compare and contrast with the natural form dresses.

Of course I could be completely mistaken and the differences could just be between the Anglo-French/American 18th century fashions and the Swedish version.

The Empire clothing is fabulous! I love the details on the brown wool dress. Thanks so much for sharing the links!

The owner was apparently born in 1839 and was a farmer's wife. She presumably made them herself. Anyhow, her build may not be the same as the mannequin's so maybe the sleeves sat further in on her.

Isn't the fabric *hideous*... It's so me!

Thanks for sharing the links - some fascinating stuff. Love those pleats on the hem of the grey and burgundy
