18th century lace cap

As you can see from my icon I have now finished the lace cap for my 18th century outfit.




I haven't starched it yet, and most of the time if will wear it with bigger hair, but i think it looks pretty good already.


haugtussa just arrived from Norway, and herzeloyde is already here. Between them I think they can put enough pressure on me to make me start on making the pattern for the robe. If Maja just falls asleep.
I must make the gown, but I'm getting very close to that crucial point when previous post-1600 outfits have halted: with underwear and headgear!

Yes, The ribbon is just tied around. It is gathered with another ribbon, which is thread through a great many hand made eyelets.

And a question about something else: I want to make a 15th century dress to wear with my shoes, and I think you are just the right person to ask. Where can I find patterns and what kind of fabric should I use? Colour suggestions?

It depends on which part of the 15th century you're interested in, and what region. For the early 15th century the gothic fitted dress was still very much in vogue. Here (http://www.historiska.se/histvarld/drakter/1300kv/1300kvfr.htm) is a pattern in swedish, and this (http://www.cottesimple.com/) excellent site gives a good method to make them. For the later 15th century I recommend having a look at myralea's site (http://myra.hem.nu/), for starters. But, when I know what you are interested in I could probably give you more directions.

Oh, I forgot. For fabric wool is the best, preferrably fulled wool. The strength of colour of course depends on the social class you are portraying, but blue, red, brown and green was popular.

I think I´ll go for something middleclass or a farmer. Not poor, not a nobel lady.
And the colour: Blue! No - green... Blue! No - green.... or red? No green. I like green.

So many dresses - so little time! :-) But my shoes are from the early 15th century and I think I go for something that could be worn in Sweden. I like the gothic fitted dress a lot!
And what can I use under the dress? I don´t think my 18th century shift will work...

Awww, you are so inspiring! I really look forward to seeing this outfit done.

I did see a really cool striped 18th century costume at an image at the Getty, so I might just end up making a 18th century outfit myself. I did get the silk for part of it when I was in LA. :)
Just hope my silks will arrive safely once they do arrive. And hopefully without extra taxes. ;)

I must admit that 18th century dresses are a bit scary, but I will complete this.
