frualeydis: (1700-tal)

I finally saw Marie Antoinette last night, together with [livejournal.com profile] herzeloyde and Kristian. I liked it, not loved it, but liked it well enough to want to see it again. And I really loved the costumes, both the historical elements and the fantasy/modern elements. I think the music worked well too. The birthday party, when they went to see the sunrise and drink threw me back to my own late teens/early twenties and drinking outdoors, watching the sun rise. The outdoors midnight party on the other hand reminded me of Visby medieval week. Of course those scenes have very little in common with my experiences, but the feeling I got was the same.

I have pinned half the skirt to my anglaise dress and will now put the stays back on Sophy (my dummy) so I can try it on with the new and improved false rump.

We still have a week to wait! I was hoping it would be ok as a film as well as inspiring costume-wize, so it is reassuring that you liked it. I hope I will be able to learn what is historical and what is fantasy in the costumes though.

I found an interesting looking book on Amazon: "Queen of Fashion: What Marie Antoinette Wore to the Revolution"
by Caroline Weber ( http://www.amazon.com/Queen-Fashion-Marie-Antoinette-Revolution/dp/0805079491/sr=8-1/qid=1168004113/ref=sr_1_1/103-3619866-7326229?ie=UTF8&s=books (puh!) ). I wonder if it's any good?
