on safer ground
Oct. 8th, 2003 09:10 amWell, finally I'm in week 12 and the risk of miscarriage and serious damage to the baby is significantly smaller. Hooray!
Yesterday I went to see the nurse/midwife at the maternity health service for the first time. It was okay, I had a little too high blood pressure, probably because of my 20 kilos overweight, but it wasn't alarming, just a little higher than "normal, whatever that is.
I didn't tell her that I plan to have the baby at home. We didn't discuss delivery at all at this early stage so I didn't bring it up.
I will see her again in week 25, after the ultrasound so we can talk about it then. I'm a little obsessed by the possibility that it might be twins again. Not that it's likely, but I will feel relieved after the ultrasound when I know. if it's twins i can't have a home birth so I thought I didn't have to bring it up until after I know.
I love my twins and it was great fun having twin babies, but I would like to experience just having one baby too.
On the sewing front, nothing new. Well, I finished hemming my Greenland dress, but since I've noticed some small holes in the fabric I've put it in the freezer for a couple of weeks to ensure there are no bugs eating up my new dress.
Yesterday I went to a wonderful lecture on the "re-construction" of Canute the great's costume, which is at the National Museum in Copenhagen. It was Lise Bender Jorgensen, professor of textile archaeology in Trondheim (Norway) who gave it and it was very interesting. She also talked in general about re-constructions of iron age male dress.
I,m feeling a bit sick, but I think I should go to work now.

Date: 2003-10-09 02:35 am (UTC)I might get clue later though since a woman in my coven is really good at "seeing" the sex of the baby later in the pregnancy. She's only done five times or so but she's been 100 % accurate this far.
I have friends who won't do the ultrasound because they think it's unsafe for the baby ad an intrusion, but I really want to know if it's one or two babies.
Thanks for the well wishes, I think it will go just fine.
