I just ordered three pairs of socks/stockings from Sock Dreams. In fact I order every month and even more often, without telling you about it :)
Anyway, this is what I ordered:
Red tartan wool blend anklets
Thigh highs in black with cherries
and, Black thigh highs with hearts and lace
What? you say, nothing from the DreamStockings line? Is she ill?
Well, no, but I have bought so many lovely thick, long socks the last year that I thought I needed some short socks and some nylons now.

Date: 2007-01-29 08:11 pm (UTC)Oh! You've inspired me to write Niquita the fan letter I'd been meaning to. :)
(btw I don't know if I've posted before but I've been reading your journal a while-- my parents were historical re-enactors [American Revolutionary War-- that's how they met!] and I've just loved all your discussions of historical clothing. I think I actually found you in a Google search about the effigy corset, which I will someday make a version of for myself but meanwhile I can barely operate a sewing machine. Someday!!)

Date: 2007-01-29 09:44 pm (UTC)I had the blue nets too and certainly loved them, I will order more when teh football (soccer) season starts again, since blue and white are the colours of "my" team.
My SD addiction started when I found the site through someone who had bought the Super Ms for her husband to wear with his elizabethan garb. A link took me to there sight and I was hooked. I also wrote a fan letter and got the nicest reply from Niq, and that's when I got really hooked. She's so nice and funny that I really like buying things from her, even if the shipping to Sweden can be a little much (not their fault, it's standard US Mail prices, and actually much cheaper than shipping something the other way) and the customs occasionally catch my parcels.

Date: 2007-01-29 11:39 pm (UTC)I can't believe her prices are so low and shipping is free in the US! (And the US dollar is pretty weak, isn't it? Well, I don't know about its strength vs. European currencies, but my cousin from Norway was here this winter and bought all kinds of things because the dollar was weak against the kroner.) I used to buy all kinds of stockings and things from Stockingirl.com but they were really expensive, some of them so expensive that I'd get them and then never wear them for fear of getting a run in them or something. So it's so great to have ones cheap enough that I feel I can use them and wear them out, but well-made enough that I want to have them on my feet. And believe me, I've abused those fishnets something awful by now.
I am so jealous of how well you sew-- I've been wanting to start sewing for some time now but I am so lacking in the basic skills that it's going to be hard for me. I made myself a basic chemise this summer and it took me days and I made so many mistakes! I someday want to make my own bras, corsets, and support undergarments, which I know is ambitious, but I just don't like the ones I find in stores or catalogues. It can't be that hard, right?
But there's no substitute for practice, and that's the hard part.
