I made my first silk-wrapped button today. It turned out pretty enough, but took me at least forty minutes to make. And since Rickard will wear this doublet maybe once every year, if I'm lucky, I don't think it's worth it. Especially not since I have to make both pants and hat before next saturday.

Well, that does seem like a long time. But was it your first one ever? Maybe you can get faster with practice?

If not, then that might be going a bit overboard. What were you thinking of using if not thread-wrapped?

Metal buttons. And yes it will go faster, but probably not fast enough, tehre are a lot of things to do on this outfit. Like the dreaded codpiece, none of the two codpieces I've made this far has turned out right.
And 20 button holes and about the same amount of lacing holes.

I estimate a making-average of one and a half times per codpiece - they hardly ever work first time, sometimes needing scrapping and remaking from scratch, sometimes just needing to be unpicked and reworked.

My slashed and pinked green wool one for Kentwell 2 years ago is the best I've ever done - even if it did end up looking like a marrow.

Ooh, now with pictures. It looks very nice indeed, but I think I'd go with metal buttons too, considering all the rest you need to finish.

Replacing buttons isn't that large a task, if you should want to in the future either.

The Svante Sture codpiece in PoF turned out looking quite ok when I did it. Maybe you can use that pattern and adjust it or something?

Oh yes, my sweet, sweet Malin, I would love that. Are you coming to the meeting tonight? Could you bring it with you?

I obviously didn't make it to the meeting, however I'll mail you the pattern. :)
