Children's garb
May. 13th, 2007 03:20 pmOne good thing about making clothes for small children is that you can be period without having to spend as much money and time as you would on clothes for adults. Even if linen, wool and silk are expensive where you live children's tunics use so little fabric that the difference between these materials and cotton or wool/poly blends isn't that much. (Besides, if you don't want to wear synthetics when it's hot, why should your children suffer?)
And likewise hand sewing a toddlers garment doesn't take much time at all. On friday night, rather late, I cut a new shift for Maja. I spent an hour and half then sewing on it and since then I've sewn on it on and off, mostly off, since it was Maja's birthday yesterday and I also went to a rally against the NATO presence in Gothenburg for a couple of hours (there's a big NATO-doodah going on in the sea outside Gothenburg and 40 ships have docked here. Ships probably carrying nuclear arms, which the swedish parliament decided shouldn't be allowed in Sweden at least 30 years ago. Also, Sweden isn't a member of NATO, but both this and the former government are trying to sneak us in against a clear majority of Sweden's citizens) and we've had guests.
And now it is finished. I maybe spent 6 hours on it, and most of them while doing something else, like watching the Eurovision Song Contest, or being nice to my guests.
