As you all know I'm partly on sick leave, which probably will be of a semi-permanent status soon, and partly unemployed, partly empolyed. This means that I'm not a rich person. But I still like to travel, some time every other year or so. And next spring I have one trip planned and one that I would very much like to do.

1.The first is to the NESAT conference in Copenhagen 14-17th of May. I'm presenting a paper so I have to be there. I have to pay the conference fee, trip and hostel/hotel myself and staying in Copenhagen is frightfully expensive. So, now I'm asking if anyone in or around Copenhagen has a couch or mattress I could sleep on these days. I will be away most of the time and I don't smoke and hardly drink (especially not when I'm working).

2. The kids and I long for going to London again. [livejournal.com profile] clothsprogs, do you think you (and Tom) could stand having a five person family at your place for a week or so; we will of course be away most of the day like last time, using your home as a hostel ;) The twins are very well-behaved and polite, and shy for strangers, so they will probably spend all the time at your place reading fantasy books, though Valeria is very fond of Japanese dolls. Maja is adorable of course. I understand if you feel that it is too much though. Especially since we can only offer the kids' bunk beds in return, should you come to Gothenburg ;)
But even if you can't have us and we find somewhere else to stay I will have to see you, because I miss you much.
It will have to be after the 1st of April, since that's when Rickard can start using his vacation days again, he has no left from this year.

Oh dear, I will have a place by then, but only large enough for 2 more.

Well if you ever need to come to a conference here in London, you are welcome to stay. It's right on the Central line, only 4-8 stops right into the heart of town.

If you don't mind commuting, you can use my flat in Malmö. It's got good bus connections to the station, and the trains are very frequent.

Sounds interesting; I'll get back to you if I don't manage to score sleeping arrangements in Denmark.

Oh, and you have to come over to Oxford! If you can't tempt the twins with the Harry Potter/Golden compass style environment, there's always G&D ice cream... For yourself, Oxbow books is open weekdays... *waggles eyebrows suggestively*

I'm interested definitely, but would you have space for five people?

Well, no, but there are about 5 buses/hour from Marble Arch or Victoria. I recommend a day trip.

Hmm, how long do the buses take? 4-years-old, which she will be when we go to England, are not the best bus-passengers.

2 hours city centre to city centre. Trains take 1-1.5 hours from Paddington, depending on changes and stops, but are more expensive. (The bus I use is the Oxford Tube, but there is also the Oxford express).

I have space for five, but two of the kids would have to share a room, and one of those would be on a matress on the floor.

Oh no! How horrible!
We always sleep on matresses on the floor when we visit people and the big girls share a romm at home too. And Maja sleeps with me and Rickard.

But I thought you lived somewhere in the country? We're sadly people without driver's licenses and I know Valeria wants to do London sightseeing.

But I would love to visit you and I know Vendela would love the beast.

I live ten minutes north of Bess. So not London, and too far to commute in for the sites.

But you're still welcome :)

I think that may have to wait until I feel comfortable to leave Maja so long, because I think it would be much more fun to be just us girls :)

We can go fabric shopping :)

(End of bolt silk brocades, damasks, stripes, taffetas etc for 10-20 pounds per metre. Heavy silk satins (intended for ties) 2 pounds per metre. Admittedly it's only three foot wide, and mostly in odd stripes, but the black is scrumptious. Cottons one pound a metre.)

Malmö is of course a much better offer, but you know I have a spare mattress and a floor for you in Lund, should you ever need it. :)

I know, I checked the timetables etc, but I'm not sure my bopy could take the travelling; Malmö may be hard too.

It's okay. We are checking out youth hostels, but they are very expensive too, and usually fully booked in May.

I'd love it, but it *might* be a bit of a strain on Tom. We shall see.

Tom says - potentially Yes, but it will depend on when you intend to come an what we are planning on doing around then (for example, we'll be away in California around the end of April/start of May).

Fitting you all in might be a squeeze. If we put you, Maja and Rickard in the spare bedroom, that leaves the option of the sewing room or the livingroom for the girls.... The livingroom means we're restricted in the evenings by their bedtime and the sewngroom is problematic during the week as it's the through route to the shower when we're getting ready for work in the very early mornings.

There's a possibility we could put them in the store-room above the sewing room (you know - that glass door part way up the stairs)if the planned sort/clearout is done before you come, or one of them in there and the other in the study.

We can probably work somethig out - but the main factor will be when you're planning the trip.

Hmm, I think we could actually all sleep in the spare room. They in the top bunk, Maja and me in the bottom and maybe Rickard on a matress or something. I think thye would feel more secure then. As long as we open the window a little we won't suffocate. As for the kids' bed time, I'm afraid that they are more night owls than we are, but after walking around whole days they will probably/maybe be tired too.

Hmm... if they are OK sharing one single-sized bed, we could put them in the study - there's room for one mattress/bed but not two.

They do that quite frequently at home, even if they have their own beds. :)

Forgot: we will go when it suits you, but then maybe beginning of April or later May would be the best idea. Or June, when they're not in school anymore.
