The silk taffeta kirtle is finished
Oct. 30th, 2007 07:03 amActually it was finished already on Saturday, and Rickard took the photos on Sunday, but I've been rather busy since then. I had the photos taken outside to get better light to actually see the gorgeousness of the shot taffeta.

At the bottom of the hem I have a facing of silk dupioni which is folded so it extends below the taffeta and wool layers and is slashed, just like on Eleonora di Toledo's petticoat, and that other contemporary preserved italian gown. It looks very cool, though you can't see it in this photo of course. Better pictures will come when I have the time to update the web site.

Date: 2007-10-30 11:52 am (UTC)The fit is very good (as I wrote in my "Elizabeth - the golden age" review: I have Livejournal friends who manage better fits than the movie costumes. And I was right. 18932090 times better!!), and I love the colour. Can't wait to see more.
When you call it kirtle - is this because it's going under another dress (since the word is related to kjortel/skjorte/shirt/skirt etc)?

Date: 2007-10-30 12:01 pm (UTC)I could of course call it a petticoat too, using period english terminology.

Date: 2007-10-30 01:16 pm (UTC)That's just lovely. Which two colors is it shot with? It looks teal in the picture - blue and green?
