Buttons and Henry VIII
Jul. 8th, 2004 02:22 pmI'm working on the buttons, I currently have four more to make, plus the buttonholes on one sleeve (11). The sleeve is very tight when buttoned, but I think it will work. I might have to leave the button closest to the wrist open, but I can live with that. I'm getting better and better at making hand sewn buttonholes, which is good, because I really sucked at it before. When you sew in very thin wool as I do mostly, the trick is to put a strip of felted wool on the inside to provide stability.
Yesterday swedish TV showed a british mini series based on Shakespeare's Henry VIII. It's from 2003 and has Helena Bonham-Carter as Anne Boleyn (not my preferred choice). The story and acting was good, but the person responsible for the costumes should have been shot. Or, to keep in line with the play: beheaded.
Too many awful things to mention, for example the crescent part of french hoods were frequently worn as diadems on loose hanging hair (especially on Helena B-C). The next and last part is tonight, of course I'll watch it. I'm taping it too although it seems to be worthless as sewing inspiration; not only incorrect clothing but mostly ugly too.
I have too many things that has to be sewn before Visby, which is in three weeks. Why do children grow??!!
