My friend Bjorn just bought a hip belt with roses on from Raymond's quiet press. He came over to my place on wednesday and showed it to me. It's gold plated and absolutely wonderful. I don't do second half of the 14th century and metal belts weren't very common for women anyway, but it was soo beautiful.

Do you happen to know if, in the 14th century, the plaques would have been attached to a belt or just linked to each other like a fancy chain?

My gut feeling goes with attached to a belt, but I could be way off on that.

I also have this gut feeling of them at least mostly being mounted on a belt, but I have to check up some pictures. I seem to recall a small statue of a piper with a belt kept together with chains. I'll be back on this.
