I've slept a little over four hours tonight thanks to pain and then reaction to my painkillers. I can see that finding the concentration to finish my presentation may be very hard.
But at least I managed to finish setting the ruffle on my Sture shirt. It's a bit tricky since instead of the stacked box pleats I learned to do from the Elizabethan Costuming page the ruffle is just gathered and sewn to the collar. When you do the stacked box pleats the ruffle naturally forms itself to something resembling the right shape, and with figure 8s of roughly the same size. Unfortunately for me that's not the way it was done in period. Both the few preserved ruffs and the ruffles on preserved 16th century shirts are just gathered with small stitches. And since this is for my master's test and because I am me that's how I had to do it too. I am sure I will get much better with practice, but for now I don't aspire to perfect, as in "practice makes perfect", but will settle for "not fugly" while still not going insane.

I agree that it's cool to do it as period as possible. To my eyes it looks awesome! *applause*

Is that an ordinary curling iron?

Little tip if you don't have curling irons is to stuff the eights tightly with sections from plastic bags AFTER applying the starch (I use spray starch). Then put somewhere very warm to dry.

Works a treat! And the starch can't soak into the plastic bag.

I DO like seeing beautifully starched ruffs!

Thanks, I will probably try that too some other time. I'm using spray starch too, for one it's the only starch commercially available in Sweden.

Oh hey, that looks very nice! And I like the "action shot". I have wondered how people iron ruffs.

So, when is the presentation?????? I'm wondering how you did/will do.

I so wish there was a similar testing system in the SCA. I would like to have something, anything to test my skill against!

I am working on my ruffs too, I'll have to dig out the curling iron and see how well it works.

I have at elast the whole summer until I have to finish this part so it depends on when I have time to go to an event. Hopefully it will be at Nordirke's summer camp, otherwise Visby medieval week in August.

I think the Laurel system and A&S comeptions in the SCA has its good points too, just different.
