NESAT - for those of you who can't be there

The Centre for Textile Research are actually broadcasting live from the NESAT conference today and tomorrow. Today has obviously already been but tomorrow you get to hear and see me ;) And lots of other interesting presentations. Go here and follow the link. I start at 14.10 CET tomorrow, but the presentations start already at 9.10 (CET) and at at 9.30 Annika Larsson, famed for her interesting reconstruction of viking women's clothing has her presentation.

I think Annika Larsson's thoughts are interesting enough, but I also think that it's a major flaw to relate specific Birka fashion to all viking women outfits in Scandinavia (or maybe it's others who's done that, and not her?). I only know her thoughts/theories briefly, so I can only comment briefly on it as well. But are there other findings/info to back up her theories?

What really would be interesting is to take Anna Linderholm's new isotope study on the Birka skeletons and compare these results with the clothing and accessories found in the graves. I guess I have to wait until I get hold of her thesis, or the future Antiquity article.

I should probably say that the presentation is wha ther dissertation was about mostly: men's clothing and ideals of masculinity expressed in material possessions.

And the Pskov fnd will be presented at 13.30 CET tomorrow.
