I did go out yesterday and I had a really good time. One thing that was kind of amusing was being "the ugly friend". The main reason I go to these meetings is to hang and drink with my friend Caroline - who's the kind of girl who always attract men. Usually we go out in a group, but yesterday most of the people I knew beside her left early, so we ended up in that oh-so-well-known constellation of the attractive girl and her ugly friend and it was sort of fun actually. She always included me in the conversations, and so did the guys, but it was very obvious that it was Caroline who was the attractive one. I never felt left out, especially not since we were having sort of intellectual conversations that all took part in and I enjoyed to once in a while take a step back mentally and see the patterns of attraction in the room.
Interesting and amusing.

Oh, and you don't have to tell me that I'm not ugly - I know I'm not, but men in general aren't that attracted to me. It's something I've known for years and have absolutely no problem with.

Well you just don't fall in the "general" category, dear.

Hah, I recognize this... When I was studying I spent a lot of time with a friend who always got everyones' full attention. She's 6 ft tall with long chestnut hair and an appearance that just attracts all the guys. It was hopeless to go around with her on job fairs since nobody talked to me or even looked at me. :)

Well, at a jobfair it would be annoying I think, but at a pub or other social gathering it really is just amusing.

I went on travel once with a tall, slim, blond, completely traditionally attractive girl, and we went out for dinner nightly. She got a LOT of attention. A couple of guys were over talking to us, and after a little stilted conversation with the one, I said, "So, you play wing man often?" with a little wink. He laughed, and after that we mostly sat and analyzed everybody around us.

Men in general are either stupid or blind, or probably both.
