Tudor dress in green?

I have spent part of this evening looking in vain for a portrait/picture of a tudor dress in green. Has anybody seen a green tudor dress? I want to do something with my dark green velvet and it struck me that a green tudor dress could be the answer.

Who cares if there's no portrait of that. It'd be scrumptiously wonderful! I don't think it's out of the question for that timeframe either. You gotta do it!

There doesn't have to be a specific example. If you see a design you like that is time and place appropriate for the fabric, go for it. They didn't paint portraits of every gown ever made after all. :)

someone once told me that "green was for prostitutes". now I've never seen documenation to that effect, nor is there a lack of green dresses in other periods...

is it maybe that green is a difficult color to create in paints? its ground malachite, right? I know the herbal greens are usually not very light fast...maybe thats it? its hard to make green dye? they tend to the blues and yellows instead?

only supposing, I dont actually know any of this for sure!

Green gowns abound a few hundred miles south in Italy at the same period (see icon for example). I'm still looking for greens in Tudor England. But http://costume.dm.net/lizcolor.html documents the huge range of colors, including several greens used in English 16th century clothing. Go for it. Phooey on finding portraiture. Great if you can, but phooey if you can't.
