frualeydis: (18th century)

In two weeks time [livejournal.com profile] emoni is having her pirate-themed party. In November I wrote about possible costumes and my indecision. Well, time just flew away and I decided that the only option I had any chance of actually doing was option two - the cinematic: 18th century and frequent showing of underwear. My husband isn't going so the only one who needs a new outfit is me.
New stays would have been nice, but I don't have the time, so I will wear my satin effigy stays - after all the effigy stays were for a long time thought to be from the 18th century ann stays from the early 18th century aren't that different from the effigy stays. I will be wearing them slightly open over the bust to give a more rounded shape there. I will also use a skirt I already have to save work.
But what I need to add is a coat of sorts and a hat. The hat will probably be something cheap gotten from a shop that sells costumes but I plan to make the coat after the preserved one shown on page 24 in PoF 1. It will probably be pale pink, because that's the only wool that I have that isn't reserved for something else.

I have been too tired and working too much to start on it, but today I fitted the toile for the bodice and it looks good. Since the cotton scraps I used were black I now feel a strong urge for a black 16th century doublet or high-necked fitted gown; it looked that good.

Arr! Sounds like a good plan.

I recently bought a felt hat on sale at Zara to make into a tricorn hat. If I remove the band inside it I think I can manage to squeeze it over both my big head (59 cm) and hair.

A parrot may also be nice, but a wooden leg is optional.
