Do you know where I can find an 18th style century wide-brimmed straw hat with low crown? The only place which sells them in Sweden charges around 50 pounds, and I was thinking that I could maybe find something cheaper. It doesn't have to be hand made, you know, it just has to look reasonably right.

I commissioned one from Kitty Hats a few years back, I don't think it was that expensive, but I've seen similar ones made by getting a wide brimmed summer hat, cutting a section out of the sides of the crown and sewing the top back on... the join being hidden by the band around the crown.

There is also this young lady.

I've seen her hats and they are gorgeous! (as are her brass pins! Nice new addition to my period sewing kit).

You probably don't want something shipped from the United States, but Jas. Townsend & Sons sells a nice flat-crowned straw hat for a very reasonable price.

I actually own one I'm not using, it's the Jas Townsend one. I'm in the Netherlands so I'm not sure it would be good for you.

Smiling Fox Forge? US though, and I'm not sure if they ship to Europe.
