frualeydis: (18th century)

The picnic was held at a lovely small "summer castle" finished in 1796. The buildings and gardens are restored to how it looked then. There are also economy buildings and a kitchen garden, but we didn't go there. Instead we sat by the fountain in the formal, "french", garden and ate and talked. Except me who had to run around with Maja all the time - my feet are sore. The park is lovely though.

Me and Maja, of course:

Gunilla from Gotvik, the local SCA shire, Maja, me and Karin, from a local re-enactment group.

Maja setting the "table"

Maja, soon off for the first of many walks

Maja in the "rooms" in the hedges

And me

Maja, the hedges and the "castle"

And again Gunilla, Malin and Karin

My camera ran out of batteries quite early, so I didn't get any photos of those who arrived later.

Oh that's very pretty! I see now why you had 18thC on the brain. But now I think that you *do* have 18thC events to go to!

That looks lovely, both the surroundings, and your clothes. Did you make the hat as well?

I bought my hat, but sewed the fabric and ribbon on. Maja's hat is made from a straw place mat, silk taffeta and ribbons.

Where did you buy it? The reason I ask is that I try to sew a 18th century outfit myself, and I doubt I´ve skills enough to make a strawhat from "scratch", so to speak... ;-)

I ordered it from Scaramouche.se in Stockholm. The hat was 120 kr, but the freight was 150 kr (which figures with the post tariffs), so if you're in Stockholm some time it would be a better idea to stop by their shop in Gamla Stan.

Maia looks adorable. Does she enjoy being dressed up? (You may have answered that before, but I can't remember, sorry.)

She doesn't specifically like or dislike dressing in historical costume. I don't think that she thinks of it as dressing up, dressing up is what she does with her Disney princess dresses, this is more like "when we do certain things we have certain clothes"; so if she likes the activity the dress coems with it.

I see. It's a good thing for you that she likes reenactment.
