Yesterday my husband spilled coffee over the keyboard and now we can't even start the computer, so until tomorrow, when we've bought a new keyboard I will be disconnected from the world.

I've spilled water on keyboards several times in the past year. I thought they were gonners. Turns out one of them I got working again by carefully opening it and drying it out. The liquid seeps between the printed circuit mylar sheets and doesn't really evaporate even after several days.

Water's sometimes salvagable, but sugar is fatal-- of any type. Sugars and electronics don't get along because sugar molecules act as electricity conductors and you get all sorts of random input from your keyboard keys.

I've seen my husband spill diet Pepsi on our keyboard and it works fine after it dries out. Regular soda or sweet tea... nope.

for the future

if he's going to keep drinking stuff near the pooter:

There is a molded plastic cover available for keyboards that prevents stuff from getting in between the keys. There are also sealed keyboards. I have neither. I'm living on borrowed time.
