I promised [livejournal.com profile] noxcat a diagram of the cap I made the day before yesterday and here it is:

You could make it from less or more pieces, but I worked with the scraps that I had. The important thing is to make the opening large enough for both your head and pinned up braids to fit into it. The rest is styling.

ETA: Put it in the list for the Stash challenge on my web site and made a page - just the same info, but easier to link to, since it's all in the same place.

So the tassel is actually the fringed ends of the hat??

Thank you so much!!!

Yes, that's why the wool needs to be fulled.

I suspected that it would need to be fulled wool.

About a yard?

No, much less. My pieces were maybe 45 cm long and then you need a piece almost as wide as the measurement around your head plus seam allowances (since you can alternate direction of the trapezoids you save a little fabric there).

Very, very funky! I love that you recreate "hardly seen" styles, and I don't thnk I've ever seen others make a fringed cap like that.

Thank you. I'm afraid that wearing a fringed man's cap may be a sign of at least questionable virtue - all those drawings are from allegories of love and wordly pleasures, which may be a reason why you don't see it done much. But I'm not sure, so I'm pleading innocence until proven guilty ;)
